STARLIGHT LIGHTING CRITERIA

The basic criteria for outdoor lighting installations in Starlight territories that are compatible with the protection of the night sky and environment in the area and applicable to lighting both within the core and in the buffer zone are:

  • Light sources with reduced emission in the blue part of the visible and ultraviolet spectrum (< 500 nm). They must have a CCT < 2200k or PC Amber
  • Luminaires with installed FHS < 1% (even 0%).
  • Do not over-illuminate, adjusting the lighting levels mainly according to usage needs and road characteristics, also to avoid light reflection (UNE-EN- 13201-RD1890/2008).
  • Install lighting regulation and control systems for certain night-time hours when activity decreases (programmable autonomous light flow regulation systems and/or remote management)
  • Utility factor > 50%. (Ratio between the light emitted by the luminaire and the light reaching the target area)
  • Ornamental lighting must comply with these recommendations, and in all cases avoid the emission of light outside the surface to be illuminated (facades, for example) using suitable systems and optics dimensioned through specialised lighting engineering studies.
  • Use the recommendations of the Sky Protection Office of the Canary Islands and Chile.
