From April 25 to 28, the Starlight Foundation will participate in one of the most renowned international events combining science, art, and music under the skies of the Canary Islands: Starmus La Palma 2025. With a robust schedule of educational and outreach activities, the foundation will reaffirm its commitment to protecting the night sky and promoting astronomy education.
The foundation will operate two official stands at the festival’s main venues: Santa Cruz de La Palma and Los Llanos de Aridane. Staffed by certified Starlight Guides and Monitors from La Palma, these hubs will offer information on Starlight-certified destinations, educational programs, and efforts to safeguard the starry sky as cultural and natural heritage.
Starlight will offer six age-specific outreach talks at various festival sites. These include sessions for schoolchildren and the general public, aiming to inspire appreciation of the cosmos through engaging, participatory experiences.
These sessions aim to bring astronomy closer to the public through an engaging, hands-on, and inspiring experience led by certified professionals who highlight the scientific, cultural, and environmental value of a starry sky.
Institutional Presence at Opening Ceremony
Starlight Foundation director Antonia Varela will attend the official opening ceremony on April 25 at 2:00 PM, underscoring the foundation’s support for Starmus and La Palma’s global role in astrotourism and sky protection.
Founded by astrophysicist Garik Israelian and Queen guitarist Brian May, Starmus connects science and creativity with a global audience. Starlight’s participation strengthens the alliance between science, culture, and sustainable tourism.
The foundation celebrates this partnership as a powerful opportunity to inspire future generations, raise environmental awareness, and share the universe’s wonders from one of the world’s clearest night skies.
A Starlight Reserve is a protected natural area where a commitment to protecting the quality of the night sky and access to starlight is established.
Starlight Tourist Destinations are locations with ideal conditions for observing the stars and where light pollution is controlled. This makes them logical destinations for tourism based on the appreciation of the sky as part of the natural world.
Among the Other Modalities, the Starlight Foundation includes the Starlight Accommodations, establishments with ideal conditions for astrotourism.
