Starlight Foundation Joins Starmus La Palma 2025

From April 25 to 28, the Foundation will host two information stands staffed by Starlight guides and monitors, and will offer talks for both schoolchildren and the general public as part of the prestigious international festival.

From April 25 to 28, the Starlight Foundation will participate in one of the most renowned international events combining science, art, and music under the skies of the Canary Islands: Starmus La Palma 2025. With a robust schedule of educational and outreach activities, the foundation will reaffirm its commitment to protecting the night sky and promoting astronomy education.

Two Starlight Spaces at the Starmus Camps

The foundation will operate two official stands at the festival’s main venues: Santa Cruz de La Palma and Los Llanos de Aridane. Staffed by certified Starlight Guides and Monitors from La Palma, these hubs will offer information on Starlight-certified destinations, educational programs, and efforts to safeguard the starry sky as cultural and natural heritage.

Astronomy Talks for Students and the Public

Starlight will offer six age-specific outreach talks at various festival sites. These include sessions for schoolchildren  and the general public, aiming to inspire appreciation of the cosmos through engaging, participatory experiences.

  • Friday, April 25 | 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM – Camp Santa Cruz de La Palma (Students aged 7 to 12)
  • Friday, April 25 | 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM – Camp Santa Cruz de La Palma. Reading of "Guardians of the Sky" (General audience)
  • Saturday, April 26 | 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM – Camp Santa Cruz de La Palma (General audience)
  • Sunday, April 27 | 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM – Camp Santa Cruz de La Palma (General audience)
  • Monday, April 28 | 9:45 AM – 10:30 AM – Camp Santa Cruz de La Palma (Students aged 12 to 17 – Main day of the Starmus school project)
  • Monday, April 28 | 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM – Camp Los Llanos de Aridane (General audience)

These sessions aim to bring astronomy closer to the public through an engaging, hands-on, and inspiring experience led by certified professionals who highlight the scientific, cultural, and environmental value of a starry sky.

Institutional Presence at Opening Ceremony

Starlight Foundation director Antonia Varela will attend the official opening ceremony on April 25 at 2:00 PM, underscoring the foundation’s support for Starmus and La Palma’s global role in astrotourism and sky protection.

Founded by astrophysicist Garik Israelian and Queen guitarist Brian May, Starmus connects science and creativity with a global audience. Starlight’s participation strengthens the alliance between science, culture, and sustainable tourism.
