In the center of the island of Gran Canaria, at an altitude of more than 1500 meters, is one of the last Starlight accommodations, the Parador de Cruz de Tejeda. Its location at one of the highest points on the island gives it spectacular views. From its terraces and outside the hydrothermal circuit you can admire the cultural landscape of the Fallen Crags and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, declared World Heritage Site in 2019 by Unesco and within the Starlight Tourist Destination of the island. At nightfall, this landscape is breathtaking with the stars above a sea of clouds.
The Starlight Accommodation is a qualification granted by the Foundation to those establishments that, in addition to offering accredited quality accommodation, become propagators of the values contained in the Declaration of La Palma, in Defense of the Night Sky and the Right to Starlight.
In addition, they provide their clients with information about starlight and some means of astronomical observation, and are active agents in the propagation of astronomical culture, offering simple facilities for night observation.
Refurbished in 2017, this Parador has a modern architecture that blends harmoniously with the landscape. The accommodation offers 43 rooms with all amenities and terraces with views.
It has a heated swimming pool, a gym and a spa, as well as a restaurant that serves a combination of traditional Canarian dishes and international cuisine.
The Parador Cruz de Tejeda is located in the municipality of Tejeda, recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. The village, famous for its almond trees and typical houses, is located on the slopes of a crater.
In addition to being one of the best destinations in the world for astronomy lovers, the rugged landscapes of central Gran Canaria are perfect for hiking and climbing enthusiasts. The most popular route is the one from Tejeda to Roque Nublo, a natural monument of almost 90 meters high, which is the highest point of the island. Once there, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Tejeda Caldera, Pico de las Nieves and even the peak of the Teide on the neighboring island of Tenerife.
A Starlight Reserve is a protected natural area where a commitment to protecting the quality of the night sky and access to starlight is established.
Starlight Tourist Destinations are locations with ideal conditions for observing the stars and where light pollution is controlled. This makes them logical destinations for tourism based on the appreciation of the sky as part of the natural world.
Among the Other Modalities, the Starlight Foundation includes the Starlight Accommodations, establishments with ideal conditions for astrotourism.
