Guadalupe is a beautiful village located in the heart of the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark, in the province of Cáceres, one of the most unique landscapes in the region. This town is home to one of the last Starlight-certified establishments, a perfect combination of natural environment, historical heritage and now astrotourism.
Next to the Royal Monastery and the Plaza de Santa Maria, in an impressive Mudejar complex from the XV-XVI centuries, stands the Parador de Guadalupe, a comfortable and cozy place where arches and vegetation invite peace and tranquility.
This Parador has just been certified as a Starlight Lodging, a qualification granted by the Foundation to those establishments that, in addition to offering accredited quality accommodation, become propagators of the values contained in the Declaration of La Palma, in defense of the night sky and the right to starlight.
In addition, they provide their clients with information about starlight and some means of astronomical observation and are active agents in the propagation of astronomical culture, offering simple facilities for night observation.
In the Parador de Guadalupe, spacious rooms with white walls and decorations reminiscent of its medieval past alternate with magnificent spaces such as the cloister, with arches and lattices of Arabic inspiration, or a beautiful back garden where you can enjoy beautiful water games. In addition, from the pool and most of the rooms with terrace, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Royal Monastery.
And if you are looking for a different and unforgettable experience, the Parador offers exclusive Starlight Astronomy activities.
The complex occupies the former Hospital de San Juan Bautista, from the 14th century, and the Colegio de Infantes, from the 15th century, converted into a Parador in 1965. Both were attached to the monastery and symbolize the pillars of medieval knowledge: humanism and science.
The result of a rigorous restoration, the heritage of the old Mudejar monastery can be seen in the façade and the current courtyard of the Parador, where the water features complete an exceptional Andalusian-inspired environment.
The rooms of the Paradores are a perfect combination of design and modern services. In each of them you can enjoy comfort, elegance of design and furnishings and the best views.
Finally, in front of the iconic Monastery of Guadalupe, in the restaurant of the Parador, you can taste the best modernized traditional Extremaduran cuisine.
The best way to get to know Guadalupe is to stroll through its cobbled streets and discover the houses of traditional architecture, among which stands out the Royal Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a monumental Gothic-Mudejar sanctuary declared a World Heritage Site. A visit to the Plaza de Santa María and the old Jewish quarter is also a must, as are the local museums, which house works by Goya, El Greco, Pedro de Mena and Juan de Flandes. All of this is wrapped in a unique atmosphere that will make you travel to a dreamy past.
Guadalupe is surrounded by a privileged environment that combines culture and nature. In its surroundings there are beautiful routes such as the Route of Isabel the Catholic, which follows the footsteps of the famous monarch, beautiful buildings such as the Ermita del Humilladero or the Arca del Agua, and charming mountain villages such as Cañamero, Logrosán or Berzocana.
A Starlight Reserve is a protected natural area where a commitment to protecting the quality of the night sky and access to starlight is established.
Starlight Tourist Destinations are locations with ideal conditions for observing the stars and where light pollution is controlled. This makes them logical destinations for tourism based on the appreciation of the sky as part of the natural world.
Among the Other Modalities, the Starlight Foundation includes the Starlight Accommodations, establishments with ideal conditions for astrotourism.
