The Starlight Foundation recognizes CEIP TIGADAY as the first educational center on the island of El Hierro to adhere to the "Starlight Declaration in defense of the night sky and the right to starlight".

The Starlight Declaration is a document that was drafted at the First International Starlight Conference held on the island of La Palma in 2007, by representatives of international organizations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) among others. It is a declaration of principles in favor of unpolluted night skies and the right to enjoy the contemplation of the sky while safeguarding all the scientific, cultural, environmental, biodiversity, health and economic heritage associated with it.

Through this adhesion, CEIP Tigaday recognizes the importance of clean and dark skies for humanity and is committed to preserve them for their impact on culture, science, environment, biodiversity, health, and star tourism and to disseminate the technological, economic, cultural and environmental benefits linked to the observation of the sky.

CEIP Tigaday has become the sixth school in Spain to formally join the Starlight Declaration.

More and more schools are embracing the values set out in the Starlight Foundation's charter on the protection of the night sky and the dissemination of astronomy.
